Reflections on the Season of Creation

Salutations to the wonderful St. Andrew’s family!

I will begin writing a little blurb each week in the Acts of St. Andrew’s newsletter. Sometimes it will be reflections on the state of things, or updates about happenings in the Parish, or some fascinating thing I have read recently.

But I hope that it will be edifying and another way for me to connect with you, given all that each of us are doing.

This past Saturday, October 4, was the Feast of St. Francis. With it, we concluded the Season of Creation. I recently came across the address of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew who gave an address for the award of the Templeton Prize titled, “Heaven Meets Earth: A Meditation on Faith, Science, and our Planet.”

In it, he writes, “There is no sacred and secular, no spiritual and material - only one truth, a single reality, shimmering with interconnection, pulsing with divine presence.” In it, he makes the appeal that the intersection of science and spirituality is an existential necessity as we steward our home both with precision and with spiritual vision brimming with the love of God.

On a tangential note regarding the topic of stewarding our planet, we also are stewards of this building we worship in! I am glad to say that our roof replacement for St. Andrew’s is well underway, which is very exciting! It will likely finish in the next week or two, and the slight tar smell that will be blessing us is a sign and symbol of the wonderful work being done above us as we worship.

See you all soon!

Yours in christ,

Alex+
