The Gift of Lectio Divina

This coming Sunday we will do another Lectio Divina. We have done a few of these so far this year, and every time I come away deeply inspired by how the Spirit is moving in, around, between, and among each and every one of us - both individually and as the Church.

In a world pounded incessanelty by noise - loud noise, horrible noise, joyful noise, streaming from podcasts and a 24/7 news cycle and a pinging phone which is constantly updating us with information - intentionally carving out silence to listen to God is hard.

It is a practice.

And between you and me, it is much easier to carve out time to listen to God if I am doing it alongside other people.

Lectio is one of those simple but profound methods by which we come to know God more fully through contemplation of the Holy Scripture. Through Lectio, we build our ability to trust not just intellectually - but also physically, in our bodies - that the Holy Spirit will guide us and reveal something to us.

Something about who and how we are called ot be right here, right now, in this particular moment in this particular place.

I pray that this coming Sunday proves to be a fruitful experience for you and your relationship with God - that in coming to know and hear God more fully, we can more faithfully serve our Lord who is Jesus Christ both within the walls of our Church, and without - in the community, with all people who are made in the image of God.

Amen.
