The Upcoming Annual Meeting
Beloved in Christ,
“Where there is no guidance, a national falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” Proverbs 11:14
“Without counsel, plans go wrong, but with many advisers they succeed.” Proverbs 15:22
The annual meeting is upon us (on Sunday, January 25 immediately following the service in the Parish Hall)! This is my first ever annual meeting as a Priest, and as the Vicar of St. Andrew’s, so I am both nervous and excited for it.
As I reflect on the annual meeting, I realize it is so much more than a procedural act done for the necessary health of the church. The annual meeting is a time when - yes - we elect the new members to the Vestry, when the budget is accepted by the congregation, when we elect a delegate and an alternate to Diocesan Convention. These are absolutely necessary, and procedural, things which we must discuss!
And it is a time for us to be together, to remember the past year, and to dream about the year to come. It is a time for mutual guidance, and mutual counsel, as the author of Proverbs so eloquently writes. The voices, vision, and counsel of everyone within the St. Andrew’s community is important and matters greatly for the future of this congregation.
I work alongside the Bishop’s Committee to help steer the future of St. Andrew’s. And we all recognize that we are representatives of the broader community, the many amazing people who make up this lively church! And of course, we recognize that we are very members of the body of Christ, parts of the wider Church through the Episcopal Church, Anglican Communion, and the global body of all Christians.
I look forward to getting to reflect, converse, ponder, and dream about the future of St. Andrew’s together at the Annual Meeting)
Yours in Christ,
Alex+
